Most Essex associates work about 40 hours a week. That means you spend nearly a quarter of your time at work! We value you and your contribution to Essex’s success, and we know it’s not always easy – especially in the last 18 months as we encountered some growing pains post-merger.

As part of our transformation process, we took a hard look at associate engagement and company culture. After some reflection, we realized that we haven’t focused as much in this area as we should have.

You are the reason Essex is the West Coast powerhouse (best in class, baby!), and you deserve a vibrant company culture, programs that connect you with the company’s values and goals, and an environment that gets you excited to come to work every day. That’s why we’re excited to announce a new focus on associate engagement and company culture, and with that, a new Director of Culture and Engagement: James Anderson.

James was most recently a regional portfolio manager in Orange County and will be transitioning to his new role on September 1. With 14 years of experience in the multifamily industry, James is passionate about culture, associate engagement and associate development. He holds IREM, ARM and CPM designations.

James received his undergraduate degree in Management and his MBA with an emphasis in International Marketing from Park University. He is also currently pursuing a certificate in Strategic Decision-Making at Stanford University. In his free time, James enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children. He is an avid sports fan, a recreational golfer and is a proud United States Air Force veteran.

Please join us in welcoming James to his new role!
