Communications

The Essex communications team is part of the marketing and communications department and is here to support Essex in the following ways:

  • Lead and implement communication initiatives internally for associates and externally for residents
  • Build a unified corporate persona and brand voice
  • Establish crisis communication best practices and implement crisis communications plan, as needed
  • Drive strategy for corporate social media sites and provide guidance for lease-up community social media strategies
  • Monitor and manage all reputation management sites (Google, Yelp, etc.) across the portfolio, responding to reviews on behalf of the on-site teams

CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS
If an on-site incident occurs, community managers should immediately call their RPM to alert them. RPMs will then be required to contact the following crisis communication team by phone call and/ or group text for further direction and to bring in other appropriate departments, as needed.

DO NOT EMAIL IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. Our crisis communications team is available 24/7 to assist you by phone. The following incidents are considered a crisis and require this plan to be implemented:​ ​

  • On-site shooting (regardless of whether the situation is isolated to an apartment or within the community)
  • Shooting in the surrounding neighborhood
  • Natural disaster such as earthquake, fire or flood
  • Protests or community unrest in or around your community
  • Robbery, theft or break-in that involves the leasing office or community assets
  • Resident death (accident, natural causes, homicide, accident, suicide)
  • Associate death
  • Information or security breach


BUZZ NEWS STORIES
Buzz news stories are reserved for global articles and updates that are relevant and timely for all Essex associates. To submit an article for consideration, details must be submitted a minimum of one week in advance by end of business on Wednesdays for consideration in the weekly Buzz news story update, which is published the following Wednesday.

EMPOWER HOUR
The E-Hour Newsletter will be published on the second Wednesday of every month and will be emailed to all associates the day prior from E-Way@essex.com.
 
The E-Hour meeting on the week of newsletter publication should be dedicated to reviewing the content of the newsletter as it will deliver critical updates to site teams and connect associates with the vision and goals of the organization.

ASSOCIATE EMAIL COMMUNICATION
If you need assistance distributing an email to all Essex associates or a large contingency of Essex associates, please obtain approval from your manager or key stakeholders prior to sending the following information to communications@essex.com:
  • Recommended subject line
  • Copy for the body of the email (this should be all of the details you need to send out)
  • Any relevant attachments (PDFs, Excel documents, job aids, etc.)
  • The distribution list(s) you would like the email deployed to (please send the exact names of your distribution lists, not generic details like "ops teams")
  • Details on who associates can reach out to for quesitons
