We have been made aware of a phishing telephone scam targeting our community offices. The caller impersonates one of our vendors (Microsoft Technical Support) and asks for immediate remote access to your computer.

NEVER ALLOW ACCESS TO YOUR COMPUTER TO SOMEONE WHO IS CALLING YOU.
If you do not know who the caller is, please hang up and notify your manager immediately.  Do not feel bad hanging up on the caller. They are bad actors attempting to mislead you.

Essex IT will always go through the proper channels to contact you for remote access to your computer and validate their identity.

Please see tips below:

  •  Do not give out personal information, name, phone number, email address
  •  Do not give out property/company information
  •  Do not go to a web site they direct you to so they can gain remote access to the computer
  •  When in doubt, hang up the phone and notify your manager.
