As you may recall from a Buzz article from last month, Redmond Hill and Vesta recently engaged in an energy savings challenge in collaboration with Puget Sound Energy.

Who won the competition?
The results are in and we have a winner. Redmond Hill won the competition with an impressive 20 points, while Vesta was able to garner seven.

Each community earned points based on activities they completed to encourage residents to participate. For instance, Redmond Hill received one point for sending an email to residents to inform them how to read their energy bill.

A few other activities on the list included: conducting a dedicated meeting on energy saving for onsite staff and encouraging residents to sign up for “MYPSE” to complete the online energy audit.

Resident event for the winning property
As a result of their victory, Redmond Hill had an on-site event in their honor, in conjunction with a holiday celebration. The event was to congratulate the staff and hand off a “Big Check” from Essex to the Northwest Harvest organization.

The team felt that giving the winnings to a charity would be the best way to pay it forward. Northwest Harvest helps feed the homeless and less fortunate, a cause they felt was worthwhile their efforts.

“The Redmond Hill staff were very engaged and were happy to win the competition,” said Resource Manager John Forde.

What happens next?
Moving forward, Puget Sound Energy will evaluate the results after the pilot ends at the end of February. This will give us information about the challenge, resident engagement and energy savings.

At that time, the resource team will evaluate the results and determine if this is something we will implement at other properties to engage residents in mindful energy conservation practices.

Redmond Hill and Vesta have certainly demonstrated a commitment to helping residents increase their awareness and ability to save energy. Thank you to both properties for taking a role in our commitment to sustainability.
