Weekly Wellness Tip: What is diabetes? Can you reverse it?
Diabetes is a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood and urine. Learn more at the Mayo Clinic's website.

Can you reverse diabetes? Each case is different, and depends on a number of factors including how long you’ve had the condition, how severe it is, and your genes. Certain lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise are key to managing diabetes, but whether you can turn back time so that it’s like you never had diabetes is a different matter. The term “reversal” is when people are able to stop taking medication, but still must engage in a lifestyle program in order to stay off medication. For some people, reaching a healthier weight will result in fewer medications, or in rarer cases, no longer need medication.

Stay tuned for more!
Thanks to everyone who participated! We have another fitness challenge planned for later this year. Until then, reach out to us with any questions or feedback at  benefits@essex.com.
