Join us in congratulating Alan Beard, sr. assistant manager at Wilshire La Brea who just published his first comic book – dAwn: The Prelude To “You Only Die Once.” Check it out at Amazon.com!

We also had a chance to ask Alan a few questions, learn more about him below.

How long have you been writing comics for?
This is my first foray into the comic medium.  If this one-shot comic is well received, I’ll re-team with the illustrator, Christie Shinn to bring the world “You Only Die Once” *cross your fingers*

Who is your favorite comic book writer?
I don’t think I’ve read enough comics or graphic novels to have a favorite.  I do enjoy Frank Miller’s work and have taken peeks at Robert Kirkman’s stuff since I’m such a big fan of “The Walking Dead” TV series.

When did you realize comic book writing was something you wanted to do and seriously pursue?
I’ve written films and TV shows in the past, but felt like this particular story would translate well as a one-shot comic to introduce the backstory to these characters.

What about comic book writing do you enjoy?
I enjoy the challenge of tackling something new.  I was lucky enough to collaborate with an artist whose imagination was even crazier than mine.  We started the project in earnest around mid-March and now that we’re done, I miss getting e-mails of the rough and finished pages every other day.  Maybe we need to start the follow-up sooner than later.
