We are excited to share a great example of what it means to Do Right With Urgency, Do Great Together and to be Respectful and Dependable. A couple of the maintenance associates at Lawrence Station noticed that the property’s pool table and shuffleboard table had seen better days. Both were heavily dinged up and scratched. The felt top of the pool table was snagged badly and thin in some areas. These are popular items with the residents, and the team wanted to ensure that they were not just functional but also looking good.

While discussing the options to replace the pool table, the maintenance technicians decided they could do the job just as well and for a fraction of the cost. So, they took it upon themselves to sand it down and refinish it. They called a vendor to re-felt it as well. To replace this particular pool table would have cost the community $5k+. Instead, they spent about $600 and gave it a fantastic facelift in-house. Juan (Dany) Govea sanded it completely down. Then with the help of Miguel Chavez Tamayo, painted and glazed it to bring it back to life.

But the team didn’t stop there! The shuffleboard table was completely faded and there were no paint or stripes left on the board itself. Miguel sanded it down, re-stenciled it, and glazed it. It looks as good as new! This would have cost the community about $1500 to replace. Instead, a little time, teamwork, and urgency allowed us to cut that cost to about $300 to bring it back to life!

Big shout out to the team at Lawrence Station, especially Miguel Chavez Tamayo and Juan (Dany) Govea, for embracing our values and behaviors! You help create a terrific experience for our current and future residents, as well as being an example of Excellent Essex associates!
