Attention: All Associates

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Kornegay, friend, veteran, and Porter at Marina City Club Marina. Charles was a Porter at the Marina for more than a decade, but most of all, he was a beloved friend to all who knew him. He never passed up the opportunity to greet you with a smile, and beaming with pride, he would gladly tell you that he had the best job in the world.

Charles loved working around the water because it gave him the opportunity to see and experience all the different boats, people, and see creatures that came through the Marina. He once said, "People are waiting to retire to do what I do everyday. I'm already at the water."

Not only did he love his job, he also enjoyed the friendships that were made with his fellow associates. His favorite time spent with the group was during their team lunches, where you might have seen him enjoying two of his other favorite things - lemonade and chocolate cake

Beyond his work as a porter, Charles had such incredible talents and skills. He knew plumbing, he knew electrical work, and he even had quite the singing voice!

When he wasn't at work, he enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and reading the bible.

Charles was loved, respected, and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.

A memorial fund has been created by his immediate family living outside the state, and any funds received will go towards coordinating a service in his honor. All remaining funds will be donated to the American Heart Association in Charles' name. Click here to donate.

We would like to invite you to share any memories or kind words you have to share about Charles with the onsite team at the Marina City Club Marina by emailing marinacity@essex.com
