Attention: All Associates

What is the Chart of Accounts search tool?
The Chart of Accounts (CoA) search tool is an interactive guide for all Essex General Ledger (GL) Accounts that includes guidelines for how each account can be used.  The CoA includes a complete list of all GL accounts, which are used to record and categorize transactions based on the functions within the business in order understand our business income and expenses. The goal of the new CoA guide is to provide Essex associates with a reference tool that will standardize the usage of GL accounts.

This tool is located in two places on BUZZ > Property Operations > Chart of Accounts Tool and on Buzz > Accounting/Finance > Chart of Accounts Tool.

What Does It Include?
The original CoA search tool included only residential GL Accounts, but you will now see the enhanced tool includes all GL Accounts plus any associated Charge Codes, and so much more!

The “Filter Categories” option is available to make your search faster and easier. Once you filter your search, you have two options for downloading. While we are excited to offer this feature, we highly recommend using the live search tool for all your GL account needs and avoid printing/saving the CoA to increase efficiency and ensure you are always viewing the most current information.

Updated CoA Page:
To learn how to navigate this new tool, a "How-To" video is available at the top, right side of the tool page called "Learn How to Navigate the CoA Tool".

We will continuously update this tool as policies change and accounts are created, renamed, and inactivated, as dictated by our business. If you have any suggestions, corrections, or questions, please click on the CoA "Help" link at the top of the Tool page to send in a ticket.

It took a collaborative effort to bring this tool to fruition, but the work isn't done yet. The next step requires all Essex associates to implement this tool to consistently code expenses. The CoA tool is a powerful resource and is dependent on the end user to convert it into a solution. We would like to thank you for your contributions in making this endeavor a success and invite you to visit this tool often, where you will have up-to-date information as well as integration of additional features and improvements.
