For the past two decades, the city of San Diego has hosted the Rock 'n' Roll marathon series in which participants can run a half marathon, marathon or 5K. Almost a year ago, a group of nine E-Team associates from Carmel Landing made a pact to form a team and run the race together.

Long-term Team-building
During a regular team meeting at Carmel Landing in August 2016, the community manager motivated the team to participate in a long-term team-building activity that would culminate in running the Rock 'n' Roll marathon series.  There was enthusiastic agreement, and even RPM Nick Allen joined in.

Since last August, the Carmel Landing team dispersed throughout San Diego via promotions and transfers, but they all kept to their commitment and continued training over ten months to prepare for the race on June 4, 2017.

The Victorious Team
Of the group of nine, eight successfully completed the half marathon, and one associate gave it their all and ran the full marathon.

Congrats, everyone!

Training & Fitness Tips
It takes a lot to stay motivated for ten months of training! Here, the team shares their tips for keeping on track with their marathon training.

  • Instead of just running on a treadmill, get outside!
  • Keep things interesting by changing up your route.
  • Start small and easy. First walk a mile, then run a mile.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Stretch before and after running.
  • Pick a schedule and stick to it. Are you most motivated to exercise in the morning, or the evening?
  • As distance increases, remember to eat accordingly and carry water.
  • Have a goal! Many people are more motivated if a solid goal is placed in front of them.
