We'd like to celebrate the life of Ralph Mahan, a beloved Essex associate who passed away in December 2016.

Ralph served Essex since 1989, supporting the communities of Camarillo Oaks and Tierra Vista as a Maintenance Supervisor and a Maintenance Technician.

"I remember him as a warm, caring man who always had a smile on his face and would not hesitate to help wherever needed," says Jennifer Arriola.

Elizabeth Rodriguez recalls, "Ralph was the longest standing team member of Tierra Vista ... He was one of the most knowledgeable and wise individuals I have ever worked with."

The team at Tierra Vista, many of whom worked with him for over 15 years, think of Ralph as their family and miss him dearly.

Ralph's brother Roger also worked at Camarillo Oaks. Their long, white beards and sibling status earned them the nickname "The ZZ Top Brothers." Residents of Tierra Vista fondly referred to Ralph as their Santa Claus. They sport their signature look in this photo from the 2000 Essex holiday party.

According to Jennifer Arriola, one of Ralph's favorite Essex memories was the maintenance team fishing retreat held in 1999, pictured here.

His family adds, "Ralph always had a fast car and enjoyed honoring Ventura County’s hot rodding heritage. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening."

Ralph Mahan will be sorely missed. From all of us at Essex, our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
