Attention: All Associates

The Procurement department has been renamed the Sourcing & Procurement department.

What does this name change mean for Essex?

The group has shifted focus from facilitating small-scale transactions to helping us source goods and services as efficiently and effectively as possible. In addition, the intent of the department is to be more strategic and reduce costs across the portfolio.

Sourcing & Procurement will achieve these goals by providing processes, tools, templates and content knowledge to develop strategic supplier relationships that benefit Essex on the portfolio level.

So far, the Sourcing & Procurement team has implemented changes that directly benefit Essex and our on-site teams.

  • Streamlined vendor process. The vendor contract used to be 15 pages, and is now just one page! This streamlined process also equates to higher quality service at the property level and lower rates.
  • Reduced contract turnaround time. The time for getting a contract in place has gone down from two weeks to same-day.
  • Only one contract needed. We used to need a new contract for every vendor at every site, and now just one contract per vendor is sufficient.
  • Bidding processes. We're currently running bidding processes that will result in lower costs in a wide range of sourcing categories: turn trades, electrical, plumbing, tree trimming and more.

Expect further thoughtful and strategic improvements from Sourcing & Procurement as well as other departments!
