Members of the RPM and corporate PNW teams recently spent their Essex-approved volunteer day at Food Lifeline in Seattle. The organization, which was the beneficiary of Essex's PNW-area virtual food drive in the fourth quarter of 2019, has a 10-year objective to end hunger in western Washington through direct food distribution, online ordering, and mobile food programs.

The team that volunteered sorted 13,509 pounds of food, which resulted in 11,258 meals provided to the community! While on-site, Food Lifeline leadership took a moment to express their sincere thanks to Essex for the impact that our Q4 donations made. Kyle Plummer, the organization's corporate and foundations relations officer, shared the following message to be shared with Essex associates:

Thank you so much for participating in the Essex End Hunger Food Drive! Because of you, someone will eat today. Essex Property Trust donated over $7,500 this holiday season to support our work at Food Lifeline. This donation will be used to create over 6250 meals for individuals struggling with food insecurity. Your investment will make a tremendous difference in the lives of children and families in our community.

During the winter months, more kids, families, veterans, and seniors depend on their local food banks and meal programs to fill their most basic need: food.

One in three of our nation’s children is on track to develop diabetes in their lifetime. For kids of color, it’s one in two. In Western Washington, one in six children and one in nine adults struggle with food insecurity while millions of pounds of nutritious food go to waste. Your support is so important to us. With this assistance Food Lifeline will be able to feed even more families, children, and seniors in 2020.

Those struggling to keep food on the table have new challenges. Colder weather means higher utility bills, a risk of family illnesses, additional costs for winter clothing, and gift-giving pressures. Your donation helps ease these burdens for families seeking help at local food banks.

Thank you for supporting us in the belief that hunger doesn’t have to happen. Your generosity is changing lives by ensuring more people have the meals they need to thrive.
