This month marks a major milestone in Maria Melara's career at Essex, as she is celebrating a quarter century with the E-Team. Maria's first day at Essex was June 1, 1992, as a Porter at Woodland Commons in Bellevue, Washington. Today she continues her streak as a porter at Foothill Commons, also in Bellevue. 

Maria recalls that when she was offered the position at Essex, she accepted immediately. What has kept her here so long? "I enjoy the work, and also the company of my coworkers," she says. 

Looking back on her favorite memories at Essex, Maria reflects, “I have a lot of good memories over the years, but my favorite would have to be when the company had family picnics.” Maria truly values her family, especially her sister Edy and her son William, and enjoyed this special with them.  She continues to enjoy the company picnics, particularly the chance to spend time outside enjoying the fresh air, delicious food, and warm company of her coworkers. 

When she is not at work, Maria loves going for walks around her neighborhood, rooting for the Seattle Mariners, and of course, spending quality time with her family.

Her one piece of advice to new employees? “Always be thorough, work hard, and love what you do!”
