Hey, E-Team! Curious about the image featured on your login screen recently?

This is the site of 500 Folsom apartment homes, currently under construction in San Francisco.

At the time the above photo was taken, the hole was approximately 65 feet deep, and there are plans to dig even further. In this shot, the team is preparing to install the cross bracing system that will allow them to continue excavating to about 75 feet deep.

From the ground and up, up, up!

The project was approved by the board in February 2015, and construction began in February 2016. 500 Folsom will begin leasing in spring of 2019. This is a rendering of the completed building.

The community sits on 0.72 acres of land, and once complete it will feature 545 units spanning 42 stories and 400 feet in height.

Residents will be able to enjoy a fitness center, separate yoga and spin studios, a community room that opens onto a podium terrace with a spa, BBQs, community gardens, lounge space and stunning views of downtown San Francisco.

Interesting facts about 500 Folsom

  • Documenting every step. Our photography team is documenting the construction of 500 Folsom, including the use of time-lapse photography (above image). View more photos in our gallery here.
  • Find any fossils? The city requires us to have an archeologist on site full time during excavation, just in case we find anything in the dirt!
  • Hauling at record speeds. During excavation, we filled a truck with dirt every 4 minutes. This means we filled over 70 trucks each day!
  • How low can we go? At 75+ feet, our hole is one of the deepest in the Transbay district.
  • Project timeline. It takes the same amount of time to excavate and build everything below grade as it does to build the 42 stories above grade, approximately 18 months each or 36 months total.
