Physical wellbeing is a key pillar in our overall Wellness program. This month we are taking a closer look at one aspect of Physical Wellness - Heart Health.
This February celebrates the 57th Annual American Heart Month – an opportunity to shed light on heart disease and heart care prevention. Cardiovascular (heart) Disease is a leading cause of death in the United States, with the CDC stating, “one person dies every 36 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease…that is 1 in every 4 deaths”.
In many cases, heart disease can be prevented by embracing a healthy lifestyle. Starting early is best but it is never too late to take steps to prolong your life by increasing healthy behaviors.
Things you can start right now:
- Getting regular checkups: Kaiser or Cigna - Don't forget to submit your completion in Vitaility for points!
- Eating a heart healthy diet
- Additional physical activity
- Monitoring & maintaining blood pressure within a healthy level
- Not smoking
- Address stress, emotional and mental wellbeing - Check out Essex's page on burnout and stress management here.
- Managing a healthy weight
- Staying hydrated
This Friday, Feb. 4, is National Wear Red Day as part of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative.
